Norfloxacin Ear / Eye Drops works by preventing bacteria growth. The drops of this drug enter the bacterial cell to inhibit a chemical known as DNA-gyrase, which is involved with the production of bacterial DNA. Excessive use may decrease the effect of the medication.
The strength of the commonly used dosage of Norfloxacin Ear/Eye Drops is 0.3%. However the patient should use the medicine as prescribed by the doctor. Overdose reduces the effect of the medication and should be avoided.
Before the application wash your hands carefully. If you are applying the drops in eyes it is advised that you keep your eyes closed for one or two minutes.
The most common side effects that are observed with the use of Norfloxacin Ear/Eye Drops include burning sensation in the eye. The other side effects, which occur very rarely, includes loss of appetite for food immediately after use of the drug, redness in eye, swelling or the eyes become more sensitive to light. In very rare cases the patient might experience blurred vision.
If the patient observes such side effects they should immediately consult doctor. The use of this drug during pregnancy is not recommended. There is no adequate data available if it is safe for the use of breast-feeding women. They should nurse the infants with breast milk only after consulting the doctor.
